Mr. Balapatabendi assumed duties as the Chairman of People’s Insurance PLC in June 2020. He is an Attorney-at-law and currently operates a Law Chamber in the practice of Civil and Commercial Law. He also holds a L.L.M. from the University of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Mr. Balapatabendi served as a State Counsel in the Attorney General’s Department prior to being appointed a Diplomat to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in The Hague, The Netherlands from 2008 to 2010 during which he served as the representative of Sri Lanka to the organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and Hague Convention of Private International Law (HCCH). He was also appointed as the Head of Chancery at the Sri Lankan Mission in The Hague. He was appointed as the Legal Advisor to the Minister of Investment Promotions in 2012 for legal matters relating to investment laws in Sri Lanka and Board of Investment. Mr. Balapatabendi has also served in the Director boards of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, Seylan Bank and Bank of Ceylon prior to being appointed to the People’s Insurance Board. He has served as an executive committee member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. He was appointed the Chairman of the Junior National Law Conference in 2007 and as the Convener of the National Law Conference 2020. At present, he functions as a Director of People’s Bank.
Mr. Fernando was appointed as a Non-executive, Independent Director of People’s Insurance PLC in June 2020. He has held many senior positions within the Expo Industrial Group which has diversified interests in Apparel, Food Packaging, Industrial Printing, Commercial Printing, Logistics Management, Engineering and Construction. He was the President of the Sri Lanka Association of Printers, Vice President of the Sri Lanka- China Business Council Cooperation. Mr. Fernando functioned as a Director of People’s Leasing & Finance PLC, Lankan Alliance Finance Limited, Bangladesh and People’s Merchant Finance PLC. Mr. Fernando presently serves as a Director of Expo Industrial Engineering (Pvt) Limited, Expo Property Developers (Pvt) Limited, Expo Printers (Pvt) Limited, Expo Cargo Links (Pvt) Limited, Expo Trade Links (Pvt) Limited and Shore to Shore (Pvt) Limited. He is also an advisory Board Member of the Benedict XVI Catholic Institute of Higher Education and Colombo Catholic Press, a Committee member of National Hospital of Sri Lanka and Vice Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka.
Dr. Wijetilleke was appointed as a Non-executive, Independent Director of People’s Insurance PLC in June 2020. He is a Consultant Psychologist, currently operates as the Consultant-Psychological Counselor for the Sri Jayawardanapura University Engineering faculty, Technology faculty, etc. & the Managing Director of Pubudu House of Education, Visiting lecturer in Management, Psychology and a practicing Counselor. A Fellow of Institute of Chartered Professional Managers – FCPM and the Chartered Institute of Marketing – FCIM (UK), Graduate Member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors – GSLID, Life Member of Organisation of Professional Associations – OPA, Also Member of many professional associations namely Institute of Certified Management Accountant – CMA, Certified Global Business Analysis – CGBA (Aus), Sri Lanka National Institute of Professional Counselors – MIPC, Institute of Management – MIM(SL) Young Members Forum – Ceylon Chamber of Commerce – CCC. Dr. Wijetilleke holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology & a h. doctorate in medicine (Clinical Psychology) and is reading for his second PhD in Economics at University of Colombo, also has Master of Business Administration – MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK), Master of Business Administration- MBA – University of Wales (UK), Master of Commerce – M.Com & Bachelor of Computer Application BCA, Advance Diploma in Train the Trainer from City & Guilds (UK) and many more Diplomas and Certifications including Certified Innovation Manager – CIM. During his professional career he held the honorary positions of President, Vice – President of Association of Accountancy Technicians Toastmasters – AAT – Sri Lanka, Committee Member of the Young Professionals, Restaurant, Bar and Social Events Committees of OPA, Executive Council Member IMSL, Mentor for CIM(UK), Treasurer Divisional Conference, Administration Manager, Finance manager of the division & the Logistics manager, Marketing Chair,a Judge of Toastmaster International, etc. for District 82 – Sri Lanka, Maldives, British Indian Ocean territory (India before). Internal auditor and a trustee for the Dharma Vijaya foundation which was incorporated under a special parliament act. District and Zone Chairman, District & Regional Coordinator Lions International 306A1 and LEO Multiple District Director 306 (Sri Lanka). He was appointed as the First Sri Lankan LEO Representative to Chair the First International LEO Conference at the First LEO Convention in USA – 2007 & First Leo Lion to be appointed as the Sergeant at Arms at the 90th International Lions Convention in USA – 2007. He was selected as The Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Sri Lanka (TOYP). Sri Lankan Representative to represent Sri lanka – 2007, Winner Best Zone Chairman Lions Clubs – 2014, Winner Best PR Project LEO Multiple District 306 – 2007 and awarded Deshamannya,Lanka Janranjana, Lanka Puthra, Vishva Abimani in 2012 considering the service rendered to the society and the under privileged. He has also served as Director Client Leadership at Mind Share World/Unilever (Sri Lanka), Chief Strategy Officer at MAS Holdings-MAS(Active)Trading (Pvt) Ltd., Head of Cost Reduction at Star Garments Group, worked at Ceylon Tobacco Company – CTC/British American Tobacco – BAT IT dept. and was appointed as a resource Counselor for the Sri Lankan Navy in 2008 apart from being a Consultant at the police academy; prior to being appointed to the People’s Insurance Director Board.
Mr Azzam Ahamat, was appointed Non Executive Non Independent Director of People’s Insurance PLC on 23rd February 2023, he also serves on the Board of People’s Leasing & Finance PLC and Lankan Alliance Finance Ltd. as Non-Executive Non-Independent Director. He is currently the Head of Finance at People’s Bank, and has over 22 years of experience both locally and internationally across strategic financial management, alternate investments, and risk. His prior employers include some of the largest multinational professional service firms and other Tier I service providers across respective market spaces. He is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK), a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK) and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka. He is also a Certified Practicing Accountant (AUST.), a Certified Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (UK), the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (UK) and a Technical Specialist of the Institute of Risk Management (UK).
Nayanganie Dulani Wickramasingha is a finance professional holding the FCMA/CGMA designation issued by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of the UK as well as a master’s degree in business administration (MBA), and a BSc (2nd Class Upper) awarded by University of Colombo. During a career spanning 27 years, she gained experience working in several industries including payment services, shipping, insurance and audit services. Her most recent roles were that of Head of Finance at MMBL Money Transfer (Pvt.) Ltd, a joint venture between Aitken Spence PLC and Mercantile Merchant Bank Ltd which acts as a local representative for several international money transfer platforms including Western Union and that of Group Financial Controller at Greenlanka Group, which was the local agent for one of the largest shipping lines in the world, Evergreen Line.
Mr. Amirthanayagam is a reputed advertising and media personality in Sri Lanka who counts over 35 years of experience in the advertising industry. He is currently the Chairman and Managing Director of the leading advertising agency Holmes Pollard & Stott, which he was instrumental in setting up over 30 years ago. Mr. Amirthanayagam is also a media icon. He was a news presenter for media networks Rupavahini, ITN and SLBC, and was also an interviewer and cricket commentator. He has the distinction of having trained at Bush House – the headquarters of the BBC in London. He was the 50th President of the Rotary Club of Colombo West and was awarded Rotarian of the Year in 2012. Mr. Amirthanayagam is the current Chairman of People’s Leasing & Finance PLC, Chairman of People’s Micro Commerce Ltd. Director of Lankan Alliance Finance Limited (Bangladesh) and Former Director of People’s Merchant Finance PLC.
Mr. Sanjeewa Bandaranayke has over 36 years of extensive experience, including 31 years of expertise in the Non-Banking Financial Institution (NBFI) sector. He currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of People’s Leasing & Finance PLC and is also a Director of People’s Leasing Property Development Limited and People’s Leasing Fleet Management Limited. He joined People’s Leasing & Finance PLC (PLC) in 2007 as the DGM – Finance & Administration. At PLC, Mr. Bandaranayake has led multiple strategic functions, including Finance, Treasury, Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology, Credit, and Marketing. His significant contribution to the Company’s growth helped PLC to achieve and maintain its position as the market leader in the NBFI sector for 15 consecutive years. Mr. Bandaranayake is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Fellow of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Australia, Fellow of the Society of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and a Finalist of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK). Further, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka appointed Mr. Bandaranayake to serve as the acting CEO to resurrect three troubled finance companies in 2009, 2013 and 2015. He also served as a Director of Credit Information Bureau (CRIB) for over a decade. He served as the Chairman of Leasing Association twice and a Board Member for over 10 years. He was also a Board Member of Finance Houses Association.
